5 Tips to a happy and healthier you

You’re bombarded all day long with the latest health tips and products you need to “stay healthy” or “stay fit” or “keep positive”. It gets overwhelming and frustrating with conflicting information and seemingly endless products you need to “be the best you”.

Let’s be real, you don’t always have the time or want to spend that much money on all the different things to try and be healthy. And a bigger truth, you probably don’t need to.

Here are some basic daily actions that compound into an optimal life and healthier you. And there are only 5. Because you don't need a long list of tips either.

1. Define what a healthier you looks and feels like.

With so much filtered influence in your face, you may not know what this definition is for you. And this might change over time as you learn and connect more with yourself. Personally, I don’t care about the IG 6 pack bootylicious pics. I want to feel strong and resilient to be able to enjoy this world. I want to be able to lift up my kids and eventually their kids. I want to be able to hike to beautiful destinations. I want to recover quickly from any injury or illness.

2. The small actions count

You may be thinking it’s big cleanes or endless supplements that lead you to the “perfect healthy state” but the truth is it’s in your small daily choices. Pick foods that are unprocessed and make you feel good for most of your meals. Make sure you’re moving every day.

  • Dance

  • Do a few squats throughout the day

  • Rock climb

  • Yoga

  • Go to the gym

Do whatever kind of movement gets you excited.

Do something that brings you joy each day.

  • Gardening

  • Playing

  • Laughing

  • Baths

  • Watching a cute animal video

  • Spending time with loved ones

Whatever you like! Also, drink water, it’s really important. Make sure you’re sleeping. All these things compound over time and will keep you healthy for a lifetime.

3. Shut down your inner bully.

Nothing will make you sicker than your inner bully. That voice in your head that judges every action you take. You are not your mind. You can train your brain to get rid of this bully. Give it a name and tell it to shut it when it starts talking smack. This is a great thing to teach your kids as well. You’re not perfect and it’s ridiculous to try and live up to impossible standards. Bullying yourself to try to “be better” won’t work. I promise you. You’ll have a happier and healthier life if you tame your inner bully.

4. Reach out for support when you need it

There are times in life when you get sick, injured, are in a poor state of mind, or can’t shake something. You’re doing all the above actions and you’re not feeling better. This is when you reach out for support from a health care provider, like me, that can guide you in the best actions to get back on track. There’s a time and place for products and help but none of it can replace the small action steps that you do daily.

Health and happiness, like everything else good in life, takes commitment and work.

5. Stop worrying about what other people think.

When you’re worried about what other people think, it’s more about you than them. You are unsure of how you feel about the situation so you’re looking externally to try and find how you should think. What you need to do is find a quiet space where you can be alone, connect with your gut and heart, sit with the question/situation, and feel what your truth is on the matter.

After you’re clear where you stand, you won’t worry about the judgment of others. People will always judge, it’s a survival mechanism. Since they will always judge, you might as well get clear on what you want and do it anyways.
